Opportunity Knock$ is committed to diversity, pay parity, and representation without exclusion, recognizing the significance of reflective representation in leadership and staff to be in integrity with the show's social justice mission. Opportunity Knock$ acknowledges the income inadequacy and economic inequality experienced by BIPOC, LGBTQIA individuals, women, and persons with disabilities. Our commitment to DEI is manifested in the leadership team, crew, and cast of Opportunity Knock$.

Leadership

The Opportunity Knock$ leadership team is primarily women-led, emphasizing the importance of gender representation. Additionally, the team includes members from the LGBTQIA community, immigrants, and individuals with disabilities. By incorporating diverse perspectives and experiences into leadership positions, the show ensures that decision-making is inclusive and reflects the realities of marginalized communities. The series showrunner also belongs to a religion that has faced discrimination, specifically antisemitism, which enhances the team's understanding of the challenges faced by various communities.

Crew

In season one, two-thirds of the crew members were BIPOC, representing Native American, Pacific Islander, Latino, and Black backgrounds. Notably, key positions such as the director of photography, lead story producer, and assistant editor were filled by Spanish-speaking Hispanic professionals. This deliberate approach to hiring ensured that the production team had a deep understanding of the cultural nuances and sensitivities necessary for maintaining story integrity. Additionally, the producers enlisted the expertise of a nationally recognized Black female executive in vendor diversity to advise on establishing inclusive vendor practices and hiring protocols.

Cast

The commitment to diversity is evident in the cast composition as well. Among the three coaches featured in season one, two are BIPOC. Further, 63 percent of family members cast in the series are also BIPOC. The inclusion of coaches and families from diverse backgrounds allows Opportunity Knock$ to showcase a range of perspectives and experiences. The cast includes a Spanish-speaking coach and a family member. LGBTQIA representation is also present through two family members with a feature story. Moreover, the series highlights the challenges of single-female-headed households as a testament to the strength and resilience of these families.

By incorporating diverse leadership, crew, and cast members, Opportunity Knock$ aims to authentically represent the experiences of marginalized communities and address the inequalities they face. Through inclusive storytelling and a commitment to representation, the series strives to create a platform for underrepresented voices to be heard and respected.
