Join us on the red carpet to celebrate the largest economic mobility campaign in U.S. history: The Opportunity Initiative.
Can a reality television series change lives? A Washington D.C. Army veteran and schoolteacher prove it. In Opportunity Knock$ Season 2 they moved from the brink of bankruptcy to financial peace with guidance from their Opportunity Coach, Jean Chatzky and local nonprofits the Greater Washington Urban League, The Center for Nonprofit Advancement, United Planning Organization: Financial Empowerment Center, and SkyPoint Federal Credit Union.
The excitement of this red carpet event is made meaningful with the sincere focus on community impact which Opportunity Knock$ is measuring as part of The Opportunity Initiative.
Opportunity Knock$ provides the national outreach for The Opportunity Initiative- the largest economic mobility campaign in U.S. history. The Telly and Anthem Awards-winning show is behaviorally designed to reduce the shame of financial challenges, overcome the distrust of institutions, and increase opportunities for the 40%+ of Americans living on survival budgets.
The Opportunity Initiative's transformative technology is the recipient of a Gold DotCom Award. The Opportunity Finder, featured in the series, used by viewers, and free to nonprofits, connects users to financial wellness and social services at nonprofits, CDFIs, and not-for-profit credit unions.
In 2023 The Opportunity Finder connected 60,000 people to utility assistance, childcare, eviction prevention, business start-up services, and equitable access to capital through CDFIs. In 2024, The Opportunity Initiative received a $500,000 grant from the Wells Fargo Foundation to develop The Opportunity Coach capable of providing financial health assessments for all viewers and measuring longitudinal financial health outcomes using LifeCents.
Opportunity Knock$ is broadcast nationally by PBS stations and streams on PBS Passport.
